Cable Glands(Type:Related Parts)

A cable gland is a part that secures the cable and protects it from cable disconnection and load due to vibration, and prevents water, oil, and dust from entering the insertion port. Used for cable outlets of electrical wiring devices such as control panels, junction boxes, handy controllers, etc. After inserting the cable into the connector body, fix and connect it with a rubber bush that serves as an internal seal, a lock nut, and a seal nut. The most common type is a tool that can be hand tightened without using tools, and there are parts for various sizes and applications. The material is made of polyamide, which has excellent waterproof properties, NBR rubber, which is resistant to oil, silicon rubber, which is resistant to aging and ultraviolet rays, metal, which is resistant to chemicals and impact, etc. There are also parts with different shapes from general-purpose types, such as spiral and pinch types that prevent cable breakage, etc.

          FAQ Cable Glands

          Question: What are cable glands?
Answer: Cable glands are mechanical devices used to secure and protect the ends of cables. They are primarily used to provide a safe connection between electrical cables and equipment, ensuring protection against environmental elements like dust, water, and contaminants. Cable glands are essential in both industrial and commercial electrical installations.
Question: How do I choose the right cable gland?
Answer: When selecting a cable gland, consider the following factors:
          • Cable type: The gland must be compatible with the cable's size and type.
          • Environment: The gland should be suitable for the operating environment, such as indoor, outdoor, or hazardous areas.
          • Protection level: Choose a gland with the appropriate IP rating (Ingress Protection) based on the required level of protection.
          • Standards: Ensure the gland complies with relevant industry standards, such as IEC or UL
Question: What are the benefits of using cable glands?
Answer: Using cable glands offers several benefits, including:
          • Protection: Cable glands protect cables from moisture, dust, and other environmental factors.
          • Safety: They help prevent electrical hazards by ensuring proper grounding and insulation.
          • Durability: Cable glands are designed to be durable and long-lasting.
          • Compliance: They can help ensure compliance with various safety standards and regulations.
Question: What certifications should one look for when buying cable glands?
Answer: Look for industry certifications that match your specific application needs:
          • ATEX (for explosive atmospheres)
          • IECEx (international certification for hazardous areas)
          • UL (safety standards, especially in North America)
          • CSA (Canadian Standards Association for North America)
          • RoHS (restriction of hazardous substances in electrical equipment) These certifications ensure the cable glands meet strict safety and quality requirements.
Question: What are some common mistakes to avoid when installing cable glands?
Answer: Here are some common mistakes to avoid:
          • Overtightening: Overtightening the gland nut can damage the cable or the gland itself.
          • Incorrect cable preparation: The cable should be prepared correctly before insertion into the gland.
          • Using the wrong gland type: Ensure that the gland is compatible with the cable type and the operating environment.
          • Neglecting maintenance: Regular inspections and maintenance are essential to prevent problems and ensure the gland's effectiveness.
Question: What does 'ex d' and 'ex e' mean in cable glands?
Answer: Ex d (Flameproof Enclosure): Refers to a gland that can withstand an internal explosion without allowing flames or heat to escape.
Ex e (Increased Safety): Designed for environments where no arcs or sparks are likely to be produced, offering increased protection through superior sealing and insulation.
These classifications are part of the IECEx and ATEX standards for hazardous environments.
