Cable Glands

A cable gland is a part that secures the cable and protects it from cable disconnection and load due to vibration, and prevents water, oil, and dust from entering the insertion port. Used for cable outlets of electrical wiring devices such as control panels, junction boxes, handy controllers, etc. After inserting the cable into the connector body, fix and connect it with a rubber bush that serves as an internal seal, a lock nut, and a seal nut. The most common type is a tool that can be hand tightened without using tools, and there are parts for various sizes and applications. The material is made of polyamide, which has excellent waterproof properties, NBR rubber, which is resistant to oil, silicon rubber, which is resistant to aging and ultraviolet rays, metal, which is resistant to chemicals and impact, etc. There are also parts with different shapes from general-purpose types, such as spiral and pinch types that prevent cable breakage, etc.

Key Functions of Cable Glands

  • Secure cables firmly to prevent pull-out caused by vibration or movement
  • Provide strain relief and reduce mechanical stress on cable terminations
  • Prevent ingress of water, oil, dust, and contaminants
  • Maintain enclosure integrity and IP-rated protection
  • Support grounding and shielding in electrical installations

Types and Shapes of Cable Glands

Cable glands are available in multiple designs to suit different routing and installation needs:

  • Integrated Type – Compact design combining sealing and fixing functions
  • Split Type – Allows installation without disconnecting pre-terminated cables
  • Standard Cable Gland Type – General-purpose solution for most panels and enclosures
  • Angle Type – Ideal for tight spaces or directional cable routing
  • Flexible Corrugate Type – Supports corrugated conduits and flexible tubing
  • Multi-Hole Type – Enables routing of multiple cables through a single gland
  • Joint Type – Used for cable-to-cable or conduit connections
  • Shield Type – Provides EMC shielding and grounding for braided cables
  • Multiple Type (Square) – Suitable for flat or grouped cable layouts

Material Options

Cable glands are manufactured using materials selected based on environmental and mechanical requirements:

  • Polyamide (Nylon) – Lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and waterproof
  • NBR Rubber – Excellent oil and fuel resistance
  • Silicone Rubber – Superior resistance to aging, UV, and temperature variations
  • Metal (Brass / Stainless Steel) – High impact strength, chemical resistance, and EMI shielding

Applications

  • Control panels and electrical enclosures
  • Junction boxes and terminal boxes
  • Industrial machinery and automation systems
  • Outdoor electrical installations
  • Hazardous and vibration-prone environments
