Proximity Sensors, Proximity switches are a type of position switch designed for operation without direct mechanical contact with moving parts. When an object approaches the sensing surface and reaches the operation distance, the switch can work without any mechanical contact or pressure applied, thus driving the DC electrical appliance or providing control commands to the computer (plc). Proximity switches are switch-type sensors (i.e. contactless switches) that incorporate the features of travel switches and microswitches, and provide the sensing capability. The shielded type has the magnetic flux concentrated in the front of the sensor, with the range of the inductive magnetic field toward the front of the proximity switch.
Non-shielded
Usage Method
The unshielded coil flux can increase the detection distance, but it is easy to be affected by surrounding metals because there is no object protection

Usage Method
To prevent signal interference, the distance from the sensor surface to the metal detection object is ≥3 Sn (Sn is the sensor’s sensing distance), and the distance between two adjacent proximity sensors is ≥D (D is the sensor’s diameter).
Proximity Sensors Single non-shielded type
Usage Method
No protection is provided around the induction coil, so the distance to be guaranteed between the sensing surface and the mounting surface shall be Y (M5~M8: Y=6 mm, M12: Y=9 mm).
The distance between the sensing surface and the metal detection object shall be ≥3 Sn, and the distance between two adjacent proximity sensors shall be ≥2D (D is the sensor’s diameter).

Question: How long is the detection distance of the proximity sensor
Answer: The sensing distance of the proximity sensor varies depending on the size and material of the detection object. The sensing distance increases with the shape of the detection object. When the volume reaches a certain value, the sensing distance no longer increases with the shape of the detection object, and becomes a fixed value. Generally, the smallest detection object that reaches a fixed sensing distance is called a standard detection object. The standard detection object is generally a square made of iron (Fe360) with the thickness of 1mm, and the larger of the sensing surface diameter and 3 times the sensing distance is taken as the side length.
Question: What needs to be paid attention to in the sensor selection?
