Handles

Handles are parts that are attached to appliances, equipment, doors, etc., and are easily held, moved, and opened and closed. In addition to the most common flat U-shape, there are various shapes such as cylindrical rod types, recessed types, cantilever types, and there are various mounting methods such as screws, round holes, welding, external mounting, etc. Most products have a predetermined size, but there are handles that can be ordered by specifying the height, pitch, grip thickness, etc. There are a wide variety of materials used, such as metal, resin, wood, etc., and they are selected according to the material and texture of the mounting object, the required strength, etc. There are handles with additional functions such as those that can be folded and stored, those with a simple lock, those with antibacterial treatment, etc., and you can select a product as needed.

Type of Handle (Knob vs. Pull)

Choosing the right type of handle is essential for drawers, cabinets, and furniture:

  • Knobs: Usually round or square, attached with a single screw. Perfect for smaller drawers or cabinet doors. Options like brass knobs or round metal knobs add both function and a classic design touch.
  • Pulls: Attached with two or more screws for a stronger grip. Ideal for frequently used storage. Popular variations include pipe handles, folding handles, and hatch-type pulls for heavy-duty use.

Size and Proportion of Handle

  • Follow the 1/3 rule: the pull length should be about one-third the drawer width.
  • Taller cabinets or pantry doors benefit from longer metal handles or foldable handles for functionality and balance.
  • Comfort is key—ensure handles, whether slim steel or bulkier pipe designs, feel secure in the hand.

Material of Handle

Handle materials affect durability and aesthetics:

  • Metal Handles: Steel, brass, stainless steel, zinc, aluminum—durable and stylish.
  • Wood: Classic and rustic appeal.
  • Glass/Crystal: Elegant options for decorative cabinetry or dressers.
  • Ceramic or PVC Handles: Perfect for adding color or patterns.

Mounting Hardware

  • Ensure screws match the thickness of your cabinet or drawer.
  • Some handles, like folding handles, include adjustable or breakaway screws for easier installation.

Installation Considerations for Handles

  • Existing Holes: Match the handle’s pitch (center-to-center distance) to avoid new drilling.
  • Templates: Use an installation template for multi-screw designs like bar pulls or square handles.
  • Screw Length: Verify screws are neither too short nor too long for a secure fit without protruding inside the drawer or cabinet.
