Compression Springs(Page4)

Compression springs are parts that use the reaction force of spring for objectives such as receiving mechanical movements or absorbing shocks or loads. They are used in many tools and products such as machine tools. Since compression springs are used for many applications, models of various sizes and materials are available. When selecting a model, factors such as the operating environment, load capacity and spring constant should be considered. Spring sizes are usually expressed in terms of the coil outer diameter, coil inner diameter and free height. There are compression spring models with outer diameters of 0.6 to 147 mm, and inner diameters of 0.4 to 115 mm. Free height is the height of spring without pressure applied. The length or height of spring with pressure applied is called the solid length or solid height. Springs are made of many different materials, such as stainless steel, piano wire, oil tempered wire, titanium alloy and steel. The material affects spring properties such as load capacity.
