Support Units

Support units are special parts for bearings used in a set together with a ball screw. Support units come in various shapes, such as square, round and round 2-surface chamfered. There are also 2 different types—models used at the fixed side and models used at the support side. Support units attach to the fixed side and support side of a screw shaft, enabling the screw shaft to be mounted in the correct position. A bearing integrated into the body of the support unit enables stable shaft rotation. Support units are available with various types of bearings, sizes, shapes and surface treatments. Models for various applications, operating environments and mounting spaces can be selected. Support units can be mounted in equipment as-is, with no need for additional processes or machining.

Advantages of Using Shaft End Support Units

Shaft end support units, such as ball screw support units, are essential components designed to securely hold and support the ends of shafts or ball screws. These assemblies typically feature internal bearings that ensure stable rotation and minimize vibration.

  • Simplified Assembly: Easier to integrate than custom-machined blocks, reducing labor and setup time.
  • Precision and Consistency: Delivers factory-standard alignment and accuracy for ball screw bearing block applications.
  • Dual Load Support: Designed to handle both radial and axial loads effectively using ball screw support bearings.
  • Versatile Options: Offered in both Fixed Side (rigid, load-bearing) and Floating Side (compensates for shaft expansion) types for comprehensive ball screw end bearing assembly setups.

General Installation Procedure for Shaft End Support Units

Installing support units for ball screws is a straightforward process, making them a preferred choice in automation and precision machinery.

  • Inspection: Verify that the size and type of the support unit match the shaft and the desired mounting position.
  • Positioning: Place the support unit in the desired location on the structure.
  • Securing: Tighten the screws or bolts through the mounting holes of the housing securely.
  • Shaft Insertion: Insert the shaft end into the bearing bore.
  • Shaft Locking (if applicable): Some models may have an additional shaft locking mechanism, such as side set screws.

Applications of Shaft End Support Units

Shaft end support units are designed to:

  • Support shaft ends: Ensures stable rotation of the shaft, improving precision and reducing vibrations.
  • Axial Retention: Prevents unwanted axial movement, ideal for ball screw end support in linear motion systems.
  • Self-Alignment Capability: Certain models allow minor compensation for shaft misalignment, reducing wear on bearings and mating components.
  • Easy Mounting: Most ball screw support bearing units are designed for direct installation on machine frames without additional modification.
