Chisels

A chisel is a tool used for machining such as cutting metal or breaking rock. Types include flat chisels, slot chisels, cutting chisels and point chisels. Materials include steel and special steel alloys. Flat chisels can break concrete and cut thin iron plates. Slot chisels are used for cutting and deburring bolts. Grinding the cutting edge allows them to be used repeatedly. Cutting chisels are used to split bricks and perform stripping work on blocks, etc. They are characterized by wide blades such as 75 mm and 90 mm. They can also be used as flat chisels. A point chisel is used for chiseling work such as shaving and breaking concrete. It is necessary to select a chisel to suit the application and purpose.

Chisels are essential hand tools widely used in metalworking, construction, maintenance, and industrial machining operations. Designed to withstand high impact loads, industrial chisels are typically manufactured from hardened steel or special alloy steel to ensure strength, wear resistance, and long service life.

  • Flat chisels are commonly used for concrete breaking, surface leveling, and cutting thin metal sheets, making them suitable for general-purpose applications.
  • Slot chisels are ideal for bolt cutting, groove machining, and deburring, especially in maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Cutting chisels, with their wide blade widths (75 mm, 90 mm, etc.), are effective for brick splitting, block stripping, and masonry work, while also serving as heavy-duty flat chisels.
  • Point chisels concentrate impact force at the tip, making them suitable for precision chiseling, concrete breaking, and material removal.

Most chisels allow regrinding of the cutting edge, improving cost efficiency and extending tool life. Selecting the right chisel type, blade shape, and material based on the workpiece, impact method, and application environment ensures safe operation, higher productivity, and consistent machining performance.
