Laser distance meters are devices that measure distances from a few centimetres to several tens of meters (approximately 300 m or more, depending on the model) by reflecting laser light instantaneously. Laser distance meters are not affected by obstacles, so accurate measurements are possible. It is widely used in land surveys, as well as in distance measurement at electrical works, construction, and civil engineering sites. For outdoor use, they can measure a very wide range of about 5 m to 1,000 m. A tripod is used to measure height along with distance. For indoor use, the range is as narrow as 30 m or less. However, there are many compact-sized ones, which have the advantage of being portable. As there are various types of products, it is necessary to clarify the purpose of use and the measurement range, and select one that suits the application.
