Cables with Connectors

Cables with connectors join cables to cables and cables to electrical appliances. While it is possible to crimp cables or fusion-splice optical fibers, cables connected using these methods must be severed to disconnect. Cables with attached connectors allow for easy engaging/disengaging by detaching the connectors. Available types of connectors are plugs, jacks, receptacles, adapters, and more. The types with a protruding contact or wire core are called "male" connectors, and the types that are concave or have holes in the wire core are called "female" connectors or "socket inserts". Some connector part numbers may indicate M or F.
