How to Use of OMRON Limit Switch

Limit Switch Regarding installation

  • The Limit Switch type enclosed switch is pre-tightened to set the roller arm in any position, so please retighten it when installing to prevent it from loosening during operation.
  • To maintain an adequate seal at the mounting thread on the side of the Limit Switch, be sure to insert the O-ring correctly and tighten the nut.
  • To improve sealing performance, we recommend using an SC connector. For more information on the SC connector, see "Limit Switch Connectors."
    When piping, be sure to prevent foreign objects, cutting chips, etc. from entering the conduit opening.

(1) By loosening the nut, the Limit Switch can be set to any position within 225° as shown in the figure below.
(2) By loosening the nut, the Limit Switch fixing bracket can be set to any position within 360°.

  • When loosening the nut, be careful not to allow foreign objects to get inside.
  • A dedicated wrench is available separately to set the desired position.

Cautions and Prohibitions of OMRON Limit Switch

Limit Switch Operating environment

  • The Limit Switch Sealing materials may deteriorate when used outdoors or in environments with special cutting oils, solvents, chemicals, etc. Be sure to evaluate the product under actual usage conditions and set maintenance and replacement times.
  • To maintain mechanical durability, when using in locations subject to oil or water, be sure to keep the grease in part (A). (We recommend using molybdenum disulfide grease.)

  • Install the Limit Switch in a location where it will not be directly exposed to machining chips or dust. It is also necessary to protect the actuator and switch body from the accumulation of cutting chips and muddy substances.

  • If the Limit Switch is subjected to continuous vibration and shock, it may cause problems such as contact failure, malfunction, reduced durability, etc. due to the generation of wear powder. In addition, excessive vibration and shock may cause the contacts to malfunction or be damaged, so please install the Limit Switch in a position where it will not be subjected to vibration or shock and in a direction where it will not resonate.
  • Because Limit Switch have contacts, if silicon gas is present in the atmosphere, arc energy can cause silicon oxide (SiO2) to build up on the contacts , which can result in contact failure.If there are silicon products such as silicon oil, silicon filler, or silicon wire around the switch, be sure to suppress arcs with a contact protection circuit or remove the source of silicon gas.

Limit Switch Operation

  • The Limit Switch operation method, cam and dog shapes, frequency, movement after operation, etc. have a large effect on durability and accuracy. Therefore, the cam should have a smooth shape.
  • Please allow some margin for the after-operation movement (OT).
    Set it to 70-100% of the rated OT value.
